Hazardous Materials

All of the Rootstown Fire Department's full-time employees are Hazardous Materials Technicians and are members of the Portage County Hazardous Materials Response Team. The Rootstown fire department houses and responds the Portage County Hazardous Materials Spills Trailer. This trailer is equipped with numerous spill containment and mitigation tools and materials.

For smaller spills not requiring the response of the trailer, our apparatus carry absorbent material to contain and capture spilled material.

Rootstown Fire Department is equipped with 2 multi-gas monitors for evaluating hazardous atmospheres. These are used during known and unknown odor responses, carbon monoxide alarms, and at all fires to determine if respiratory protection is necessary for salvage and overhaul procedures.
